Wichita Exterior Painters | Prep Work for Painting

Most people think the hardest part (and the most important part) of painting a house is actually applying the paint to the siding. Most people, however, are incorrect. Painting is the easy part. The hardest part of residential painting is preparing the house to get painted. That's one of the primary reasons people hire Wichita exterior painters like us to help - they want to make sure it's done right.

So, what goes into preparing a house to be painted? Glad you asked. There are several different things you can do, but the purpose is to make sure the paint has a clean, dry, secure place to stick when you put it on. Because of that, the answer to a good prep job is making sure the house is clean, grease free, dry, and is free of any chipping paint.

One of the easiest ways to accomplish most of these tasks is with a good power washing. You know what a power washer is, right? For the most part, it is a car wash washer that is compact enough to be wheeled around your house. It puts out a high pressure water stream that is great at breaking up and clearing chipped paint while washing your home at the same time. You can be this Wichita exterior painter knows how to use a power washer!

But that's not the end of it. Know the saying "there's nothing like a little elbow grease?" The same saying applies here. There is no substitute for hand scraping in areas that need it. So, you are going to want to make sure you get out there, get a little hot and sweaty, and scrape the areas of your house that need it (feeling like hiring someone for this job yet?!).

Once you get all the old, peeling paint off, it's time to clean the house to make sure there isn't any dirt in the way of the paint and your house. That can be done with the power washer as well, and usually just takes a good soaking, making sure to remove any dirt that you can see.

After that you are ready to paint! That's all for today. Stay tuned for more important Wichita exterior painter news.

Wichita Exterior Painters | Should You Paint Your House Yourself?

Deciding to paint your Wichita house is an easy decision? Is the paint chipping? Has it faded? Has it been a long time since you last painted your house? If the answers to these questions are yes, then you know your house needs a new paint job.

The harder question is, should I hire a Wichita exterior painter? And the short answer is, maybe. And the final answer is going to depend on your specific situation, what you value, and what your priorities are.

As for specific situation, you are obviously going to need a little bit of money to pay for the paint job. This can be credit, cash, or whatever other means you can come up with to pay the painting contractor for the job. If you have absolutely no money whatsoever, hiring Wichita exterior painters is going to be tough. Most people, however, can put together enough money, particularly with credit, to pay for an exterior house paint job, especially considering the value and protection it gives your home.

As for what you find valuable, it's really going to come down to how highly you value your time. If you decide to paint your house on your own, it is a job that could take weeks. You don't have the professional equipment we do, the manpower we do, or the skill and expertise that we do, so everything is going to go slower than if we were doing it. Typically what we can do in 3-4 days takes a homeowner 3-4 weeks to complete. Some people are okay with that, some people value their time more than that.

Finally, your priorities are going to determine if you should paint your house or hire a Wichita house painter to do it. Is priority number one for you doing a job right and protecting your house? Is it maximizing your homes value? Or is it saving a little bit of cash to get a mediocre job? The answers to these questions will have an effect on whether or not you decide to hire a professional to paint your house.

In the end, the decision is all yours. We know the decision we'd like you to make - to hire us to help you out. But the least you can do, to make sure you are making the right decision, is to call us for a free estimate. It will take 15-30 minutes of your time, and you'll be content knowing you made an informed decision.

Wichita Exterior Painters | Finding a Good Painter

If you are like me, finding someone to take care of the professional services I need isn't easy. Unless I know someone (I never have to look far to find Wichita exterior painters!) or trust a referral source, I'm kind of out on my own judging the credibility and trustworthiness of the people I'm going to hire to help me.

To help me through the process there are always a few rules I follow strictly. It makes the process a little longer than it might normally, but it ensures that I get a good person to help me, and I've never had any problems. If you are looking for good Wichita exterior painters, I hope you follow some of these rules, and I hope we can meet your expectations.

First things first, I never hire the cheapest person. Ever. It's not that they are inherently untrustworthy, but I understand that good work costs a little bit of money. And I am willing to pay a little bit more to get someone working for me that is going to do the job right and do it right the first time. I don't usually take the most expensive either, but there is something to be said for understanding the value of your work.

Second, I always ask for a list of previous customers that I can call. If they don't have any or are unwilling to give me that information, it makes me a little suspicious. We take great pride in our work and (assuming our previous clients give us permission) appreciate the opportunity to let our past work speak for itself. And, the most important part of this step - I actually call the people to see if the work was good and if they were happy with the service.

Third, I always see at least two people about the problem. As with Wichita home painters, there are many people out there doing what I am looking for. And there are many different styles and levels of service to be purchased. To make sure you get what you want, get a couple of bids on your house painting job, size the people up, and then make a decision.

Following these simple tips won't guarantee you'll get the best Wichita house painter out there (unless you hire us!) but it will give you the comfort of knowing you did the background work necessary to get someone that at least passes the smell test.
